Photo Gallery - Slide Show Layout

About Layouts    Horizontal    Vertical    Montage   Slide Show

The Slideshow layout creates a row of scrollable thumbnails, below which the larger image is displayed when one of the thumbnails is clicked on. Text is displayed under the larger images.

This link will open a new window showing image of the slideshow gallery layout.

The slideshow is set for a width of about 700 pixels, so allowance must be made for this in your web page, especially if using a template.  Making the thumbnails smaller, will not reduce the width of the gallery, it will just allow more images to be shown.

Also pay heed to the fact that unless the larger images are compressed well, to reduce their file size, the whole page can take some time to download.

This is not an easy layout to customise, especially when it comes to altering the number of thumbnails shown, or the width of the slideshow. Knowledge of javascript and other stuff is essential to do this - and exceptionally time consuming.

If any serious customisation is required, then I would suggest that you do not use this layout. Instead you can find many free scripts available on the web that can be easily customised - without any serious knowledge of javascript being required. Because it is complicated and time consuming to alter this layout, no tutorial is provided.

NOTE: Various versions of Netscape will not view the slide show correctly. If browser compatibility is of concern to you, then do not use the slideshow. The left hand menu gives a link to some alternative slide show layouts.

The Food Gallery uses the Slideshow Layout.
