Photo Gallery - how to customise it

All Galleries - except Slide Show
Insert your chosen Gallery onto your page and make whatever alterations you need, that the Wizard allows, and save your page and close it.

I like to keep my gallery page, images and thumbnails all in the same folder - it makes it so much easier to be able to find and identify all the files used, especially if at a later date a second or third gallery is created.

Locate the Folder Front Page created - photoxxx. Make sure the page you just inserted the gallery on is closed. In folders view, left click on the page and drag it over to the photoxxx folder to move it there. Front Page will update all necessary links (as long as your pages are closed).

When Front Page makes the thumbnails it calls them by the same name as the larger images. So before you move the larger images into the photoxxx folder, some re-naming will need to be done. I tend to rename the thumbnails, by adding a tn (thumb nail) after the name. So if my thumbnail image is called image.gif I rename it image_tn.gif - it will now be easy to identify which is the larger or thumbnail image. Once you have renamed them, then locate your larger images and move those into the photoxxx folder. If you already have graphics on your page, not associated with the gallery - say template images, it is up to you whether you move those into the folder as well, I generally like to keep just the files associated with the gallery itself in that folder.

Now copy the whole folder to another/desired location. The copy will be the one we will be working with.  You will still have the original inside the folder, which can be used as a back-up if needed. Once you are totally happy with your customisation, then you can later delete the original.

Now click on one of the links below to find out how to customise the various layouts. Unfortunately I do not cover the Slide Show - this is not worth customising. It involves the use of divs and layers and is not worth the time and effort involved when there are so many free slideshow scripts available.
