Find & Replace
|
 |
|
On single page |
Ever had to replace something in lots of pages? Or tried to find
some code in the HTML - and just can't seem to find it for
looking!! Well, Find and Replace can help out here. You can
search for and/or replace text or code in one or multi pages or
your whole web.
Using the Find and
Replace on one page
- Open up your web in FrontPage and open the required page.
- If you are looking for code, you will have to have the HTML
view open.
- From the main tool bar, click on Edit/Find (Ctrl+F)
or Edit/Replace (Ctrl+H). The dialog box that
opens will show both the Find and Replace tabs,
so you can easily switch between the two.

- The main dialog box will open. In the Find what box,
type in the word or phrase you want to find
NOTE: You cannot search for phrases that contain line returns.
All words must be contained on one line.
- And put the replacement text in the Replace with
box. Depending whether you are searching for one or more words,
some of the other options may be greyed out. This is normal, it
just means that those options cannot be applied to your
choices.

- Under Search Options, make sure the Current Page
is checked.
-
In the Direction Box show All.

-
The next section - click Match case if
upper or lower case is important. The next box Find whole
word only - again check that if required .... if unchecked
FrontPage will find all instances of what you typed in the Find
box, even if forming part of a word. If you have your page open
in Normal view, then the Find in HTML box will be
greyed out - switching to HTML view will activate that box.
Other options may be greyed out, depending on other choices
made in the Find/Replace dialog box.

-
You can now either click on Replace All
- in which case all instances of the word or phrase found in
the document will be replaced, or if you click on Find Next,
FrontPage will find the next instance and highlight it for you,
you can then click on Replace or go on to find the next
instance. The image below shows how FrontPage has replaced the
requested text and advises that it has finished searching the
page.
