Files and Folders Front Page
creates
Click on the Folders Icon on the View bar on the left, or
on the main tool bar click on View/Folders List.

Under Folder List - the very top folder,
which shows the location of your web - that is the root folder - the folder into
which all of your web will go.
Within your root folder, Front Page created the
following:
-
_private -
This folder is used to store form results. Site visitors are
not allowed to view the contents of this folder. Do not delete
this folder.
-
images -
you can store your graphics in this folder - if you wish. the
folder can safely be deleted if not wanted.
-
index.htm -
This is your "home" page - the page your site visitors will be
taken to when typing in your web address, such as
www.frongpagetutorials.com. Do not change the name of this
file. Depending on where you host your site, the home page can
be called index.htm - index.html - default.htm ...... one of
the beauties of Front Page is that when you publish your web,
it will communicate with the Front Page Server Extensions on
your site and will determine what your host wants the "home"
page to be called - and will change the name of the page on the
server to reflect that. If you change the name of the index.htm
on your disc based web - Front Page may no longer recognise it
as the "home" page .... then there may be a few "ooops" !
-
Hidden Folders
- as you add to your web, Front Page may create some hidden
folders - hidden even from you ! This really is a safety
precaution, so you don't accidentally delete them. For example,
if you use Themes or Shared Borders, there will be hidden
folders created - these folders contain information Front
Page requires to make those items work. As long as you are
aware that most folders created by Front Page actually serve an
important role, and must not be deleted, then you can actually
select to see those hidden folders. To do this, click on Tools/Web Settings

Then check the box that says Show hidden files and folders

Front Page will then tell you it needs to refresh
the web to do this. Now, any hidden folders created by Front Page
will be viewable in Folders View.
