How to create a
Web |
This tutorial will show you how to create a one page web to
which further pages can then be added. A lot of people
prefer to customize the pages themselves, rather than use ready
made themes or templates, which is why we are starting off with a
"blank" one page web.
When you create a one page web, FrontPage automatically creates
for you:
- The home page - which it names index.htm
- A folder called images
- A folder called _private
The purpose of these will be explained further along ...
- From the File menu,
click New then Page or Web...

-
The New Page or Web
task pane is displayed on the right-hand side of the
application window.
In the New section of the
task pane - click Empty Web

- The Web Site Templates
dialogue box is displayed.

-
Under the Web Sites
tab, click on the One Page Web
icon

-
On the right hand side of the dialogue box,
under Options is "Specify
the location of the new web:" box.
When Front Page is first installed, it creates a folder inside
"My Documents" folder, called "My Webs"
.... the folder will have a blue icon on it, indicating it is a
Front Page web folder - and any webs inside that folder will
also have the blue icon on it.

Front Page, when creating your new web, will automatically
choose a name for it, for you. Usually something quite exciting
like "My Webs1" !! which it
will save within the already created "My
Webs" folder.
Change the name of the "My Webs1"
to something more suitable for your website. This is not the
actual website address, i.e. http://www.nameofyourdomain.com
but a nickname by which you can recognise it on your hard
drive. This tutorial site I called "fptuts".
-
Now click OK
- your basic one page web has now been set up. If you open up
the My Documents folder, look for the My Webs folder, with the
blue icon and inside it you will see your web folder that has
just been created -
